GENERAL ASSEMBLY & 2008 ANNUAL ROUND TABLE GENERAL ASSEMBLY 2007 & 6th ANNUAL ROUND TABLE GENERAL ASSEMBLY 2006 & 5th ANNUAL ROUND TABLE GENERAL ASSEMBLY & 4th ANNUAL ROUND TABLE Last Activity reports CREATION OF THE INTERNATIONAL NO-NOMA FEDERATION

For the first time in the history of the fight against Noma, the major associations fighting against this forgotten disease decided to unite their efforts to increase the chances of its complete eradication. It was thus that on March 20, 2003, the International No-Noma Federation was created.

The presidency of this federation was entrusted to the Winds of Hope Foundation of Bertrand Piccard and Brian Jones, who initiated this project on the occasion of the second anniversary of their round-the-world tour in a balloon.

Today, the federation’s members endeavor to spread information about this forgotten disease through the press, the public and authorities, by persistently sending out the message that Noma is the face of poverty. Caused by malnutrition and poor hygiene, the atrocious facial mutilations striking young children are nevertheless avoidable with early medical care.

For this reason, the objective of the International No-Noma Federation is also to make recommendations to authorities of the countries concerned and international health authorities on the measures to adopt in terms of research, prevention, early detection and medical and surgical treatment.

First European Round Table

By organizing the first European Round Table with the main players, NGOs and doctors who have all undertaken to fight against Noma, the Foundation hopes to shed light on possible synergies, compare experiences and bolster resources around the common theme of prevention and training and lastly, to set the foundations for a joint plan of action to be led on the international level. The purpose of Winds of Hope is not to replace the associations that are active in the field, but to act as a uniting force to promote leverage in eradicting such an unacceptable disease in the 21st century.
